William how do you think the State of Tennessee makes money in this situation? Unfunded mandates at the federal or state level are nothing new and the fire service has survived such mandates before. The state has the correct idea, getting the firefighters that serve as volunteers better trained so they work safer and more effectivly. The fact that they can only go to one training center is restrictive though. Maybe the larger cities could open their training facilaties to the volunteers and get them some better training. Do you think if the insurance companies found out how poorly trained your local firefighters were they could raise your rates? Maybe because if a fire department represents a town you should expect a certain level of competence from them. If the fire depertment is not trained there might be a higher than average probability of some one dying in a fire. With that comes higher payouts and settlements from such incidents, maybe even to the firefighters survivors should there be a fatality there. This mandate does not come from insurance companies but from out of touch politicians.

Look at it this way...the state and insurance companies are the ones making money off the public. Think about it for a moment...The State mandates training that Volunteer's are unable to pay for...the station closes down...THE PUBLIC'S home owners insurance goes out of the roof because they don't have the fire protection in your town or city. AND THE STATE IS LETTING IT HAPPEN! it's all about money ... the insurance companies don't care about life or your property OR YOUR FIRE STATION...it's about the State and the insurance companies making money. THIS IS JUST HOW I FEEL ABOUT IT.
